Russian orphans Steve Bellamah Steve Bellamah (P084SB)

Reaching out in Hope and Love to the Children of the Solotcha Orphanage

Steve Bellamah was born in Washington DC in 1955. He graduated in 1977 from North Carolina State University with a degree in Industrial Engineering, and in 1991 from Golden Gate University with a Masters Degree in Business.

Steve has two adopted daughters in their mid-twenties.  One is married and living in England with her husband and daughter, the other lives in Russia and is soon to be married.

After a couple of short stints in Russia, sent by his Presbyterian Church, Steve moved to Russia to work full time to improve the lives of the children at Solotcha orphanage, and help prepare them for their futures once they leave the orphanage. He reports:

"The ministry in Russia proved more difficult and challenging, particularly in the early years, than I could have ever imagined or anticipated. All the things that I had been told about, and was expecting, turned out to be quite benign compared to the unexpected."

After eleven years, the full-time work with the children at the Solotcha orphanage ended in June 2008.  However, Steve still visits the orphanage — at least three trips are planned for this coming year — and continues to administrate several programs that help the children in the orphanage and the graduates.

The primary goals of this outreach include

  • Meeting the needs of children at risk.
  • Providing children with hope.
  • Instilling into each of them a wonder at the magnificence of creation and what they can be
  • Empowering them to embrace a victorious attitude towards life.
Steve's current objectives include:
  • To maintain communication with, and encouragement to, the children in which a relationship has been formed over these past many years.
  • To visit the orphanage three times a year to maintain contact with the children, assess how they are doing, and to remind them of the things that he has taught them in the past.
  • To facilitate programs, as appropriate and as funding allows, to benefit the lives, and further learning, of the children that are in the orphanage.
  • To continue to facilitate the program that provides these children financial aid and spiritual guidance after they leave the orphanage.
