Facilitating visionaries for community transformation

Grandson of Canadian homesteaders, Richard grew up on a mixed farm in a rustic, multicultural community in central Saskatchewan, Canada. After moving to Portland, Oregon in 1959, he completed college in electronics engineering, married Ruth and reared three daughters. In 1967, his church selected him to serve on its foreign outreach committee as a volunteer staff member. For the next 21 years, Richard worked with that committee to launch or serve initiatives to seven nations.

Since 1988, Richard has studied intensely and has continued to serve bi-vocationally, earning Masters and a doctoral degree in intercultural studies. He and his wife, Ruth, have since helped launch holistic initiatives to several Central Asian peoples. In 1998, his agency asked him to direct its community transformation, mentoring and training functions. These roles opened unique doors to develop relationships with community visionaries; and to enlarge his understanding and application of the servant mindset, bi-vocational service and community transformation concepts. By 2001, Richardrealized that his life experience had prepared him to lead the launch of Community Vision International (CVI²).

Ruth is Richard's wife, mother of three adult daughters, grandmother of 11, and great grandmother of two great grandsons.  Ruth assists Richard who codirects Community Vision International. She and Richard also comanage Community Vision Services, which develops, utilizes and offers diagnostic- equipping resources to guide, transform and equip community servants and transformation agents. This work in turn provides Ruth other service opportunities, such as: intercession for clients, transformation workers and others; and selection, recommendation and distribution of life-building media.
