Equator MinistriesKent & Gulnara Leander Kent & Gulnara Leander

Kent and Gulnara first met in 1984 when Kent was serving as a short term missionary with the Evangelical Covenant Church in Quito, Ecuador. Kent was studying youth ministries at the time and Gulni was studying industrial design. Ten years later and after five years of letter writing, they were married. Kent was then working as the art director for Azusa Pacific University Communications Office in California and Gulni had been working in youth ministry, overseeing the national youth programs for the Covenant church in Ecuador. Two years later they worked in Mexico City, Mexico with the Covenant church. While there, they ministered in youth work and discipleship, and developed youth ministry resources.

When they returned, their search for greener pastures and cleaner air led them to Gresham, Oregon. While there, Kent worked as the graphic designer for Righteous Clothing Advertising and Design and Gulni worked part time as a medical translator and as full time mother to two boys, Andre and Jessiel.

They returned to the United States with the intent of returning to the mission field within 5 years. God has directed them to return to Ecuador to minister to the families and children of Ibarra, Ecuador and the surrounding northern Ecuador communities. They are pleased to work as Associates of Family Life Ministries and will be assisting Compassion International in working with the local Compassion project.
